Twilight

by Stephenie Meyer

Everyone seems to think that Twilight is an amazing book. It's not. It's a teenage girls wet dream and I suppose I couold live with another one of those cluttering up the market if people stopped talking about how brilliant it apparently is. It is a teenage book for teenage girls who probably don't read much and want something to drool over.

The characters are 2-dimensional, most of them don't even need to be there, you get the feeling that they could be killed of easily with little to no impact on the plot.

The writing is bland and repetative. Ms Meyer seems to feel the need to use an abundance of adjectives to describe everything but it would appear she doesn't know that many as she uses the same ones over and over again.

The vampires themselves just confuse me, I'm all for creative liscence and think she has every righ to make her vampires different from our common conception of them, in fact I think it's a good thing, but why make them sparkle? what is the point in that other than Bella being even more amazed by Edward?

All in all, it's a passable book for what it is but so much hype has built up around it that in my mind it's becoming worse, whenever anyone points out how great it is all I think of are it's bad points. I used to like Twilight. Not any more.

I intended to bin this book but I am pleased that a like-minded person has done the deed already. In fact, mere binning is too good for Twilight; it should be torn apart and burnt - and I NEVER suggest such crimes against books normally!m I can see the market Meyer was aiming at and how she obviously managed to fill that niche (otherwise it wouldn't be so damn popular). But, just because it has fans doesn't meant it is actually any good. The premise seems sound; boy meets girl, overcome obstacles, throw in a it some vampires to spice it up a little. I can even see how it could have perhaps been a good read (for teen market)...if somebody else had written it. Her style s far too simplistic. Belle is a character with little depth, and a poor role model for the readers, while Edward is essentially a stalker. All the way through the Belle's narrative seems so repetitive and lazy. "I'm stupid", "Edward's gorgeous", "I'm clumsy", "Edward's amazing", "I'm not worthy", "Did I mention Edward's gorgeous????" I suppose it may have at least encouraged some teens to at least pick up and read a book, but generally it it throughly over-hyped and a very disappointing.

I agree that Meyers writing is not the most complex of authors, but i wish people would stop hating on the Twilight Saga. Meyer herself, has never claimed that her books are anything more then a teen drama with twist, its only people who don't understand good literature, that believe it to be the literature bible. Her story is an excellent twist on old vampire myths and the characters far from 2 dimensional. They have pasts and history and Meyer out did herself with the amount of imagination she used. Of course this is not one of the great classics, Meyer will never be compared with Austin or Bronte, but she herself knows this. Me (being a teenage girl) can see why there is such a hype, but i can also see why people get annoyed. This does not give people the right to slag off a good book, with an interesting story. Christ, give her a break, if it wasnt a decent read it wouldnt have made millions of pounds. Lets get real people, Twilight is a phenomena: whether it be for the right or wrong reasons. Stephanie Meyer is practically bathing in money and i admire her.

Great review! Although, it does seem rather nice about such a poorly written book that reads like fan fiction! The first time I read it, I thought the simplistic writing was quite refreshing, but why do some many people want to get so obsessed? If Stephenie Meyer had any brain, then she wouldn't have allowed this rubbish to have ever gotten written and destroy the minds of everyone who is unfortunate enough to read it. Edward and Bella don't even fall in love, it never actually gets past the idea that Edward's pretty, and Bella has the blood Edward likes. All of it based on lust! This book is the one book I'd ever burn!!!

Excellent review that fits exactly with my concept of the book! Also, nothing at all happens til the end few chapters. The concept of Eddward as a stalker (and this is shown to be a good and romantic thing) is also slightly worrying.
